Translations
Business
Translation
is the process of converting text or speech from one
language to another. It has an important role to play
in conducting international business and politics. When
people from different countries meet to conduct business
or diplomacy a clear understanding of what is being
said is necessary to avoid misunderstandings that could
be damaging to all parties involved. Another common
use of translation is in converting the text of books
from one language to another. This is one of the earliest
uses of translation.
With the advent of personal computers, software has
replaced human translators in some cases. Machine translation
is a process whereby computer software analyzes a source
text and produces a translated version. Examples of
translation software available on the internet are Yahoo’s
Babel Fish and Babylon. The results produced by these
programs are however not 100% reliable.
Computer Assisted Translation is the process a human
translator produces a text with the aid of a computer.
This process has the benefit that it can be used by
people who are not fully fluent in the language to be
translated.
There will always be a need for skilled translators
even with the new developments in computer software
skilled translators are needed for the smooth conduct
of international business and diplomacy.
